Happy Fall from Albania!

Our local church has been going through a series called "Snapshot!" of different people from the Bible, and it inspired us to write an update that shows a "Snapshot" of life here in Albania for you. We are thankful for your continued partnership in prayer and giving! We thank God for working in and through y'all to continue to spur us on here in Albania!

Our fantastic summer Hana church missions team - all smiling after cleaning the nursing home's solar panels on the roof!
One of our summer snapshots is hosting our Hana church summer missions team! The 8 person team blessed us for 2 weeks with their full on Jesus-loving energy! They served at our local blind and disabilities camp Drita e Jetes and a VBS kids camp in a local village Pojan where we partner in church planting efforts. From sharing their unforgettable testimonies, amazing worship dance moves, and open air evangelism in the streets of Korca, they touched hearts of all those who had ears to hear. When one of the local TV reporters asked the team leader, "Why are you here all the way from America?" She smiled and answered simply, "To share that God loves you!"

The team's simple and powerful message affected one of the young teens walking by their drama skit in the town square. She had been struggling with severe anxiety and depression when she stopped and watched with tears and felt God's love for her through their drama. From that evening, that teen has been coming to our weekly gathering and our eldest daughter has given our new friend an Albanian Bible!

Between 2 doctors and 5 homeschooling children, our lives stay busy with doing school in the mornings and medical visits in the afternoons. We split our time between village home visits and helping out at the nursing homes. A snapshot of our typical patient is the story of "B."

Standing just shy of 4 feet tall, B hobbles around with a cane in her gray concrete 4th story apartment home. When we first met B, she was very anxious and worried that her son would be home when we visited her. We have gotten to know her because our local church provides a warm meal everyday for her and other elderly in the neighborhood. Later, we found out more of B's story. She suffered often from bruises and blows from being hit by her drunk son while her other son refuses to talk to her for more than 4 years. B had once worked as a cleaner in the hospital OR for more than 30 years. Now being a widow, B feels she has no choice but to live with her often drunk son, and so she continues to live anxiously and prays for her sons to change. The last visit we had with B, we were able to clean and trim her thickened fungus-encrusted toenails.

God's laid on our heart to focus on those with the least access to the gospel and healthcare in Albania - the elderly, homebound and disabled - just like B. And so, we joined with our local church partners to start Shkelqe! (Shine! in Albanian). Shkelqe offers monthly to gather families with special needs. We share meals together, stories from God's Word, and play therapy games that help enhance their developmental skills. We want to get to know the families and grow relationships that build trust and offer medical help as needed. Our first Shkelqe! meeting in August was a success! Another snapshot of our lives involves going out of our way (literally!) to encourage fellow co-laborers. Earlier this month, we drove 5 hours away to cheer on our missionary friend Felix who swam from the shores of Albania to Greece's Corfu island to raise funds for Axios, their ministry reaching troubled teens and young adults of southern Albania.

Felix had been training everyday for months before the race, and then, minutes before the race began, Felix was befriended by the only Albanian swimmer in the race. He whispered to Felix, "Don't worry - follow me. I know these waters." So, in an act of trust and faith, Felix swam with the Albanian swimmer to the right side along the current while all the other 200 swimmers swam apart from the current, straight towards the finish point. All throughout the swim, Felix thought he was falling way behind because he didn't see any other swimmers besides his Albanian friend. He panicked, "Oh no! The life boats will need to pick me up because I'm so far behind!" But when he arrived at the finish point, he was in second place! God provided an Albanian friend who knew the currents. The many other swimmers who didn't swim along the current didn't finish the race! After finishing the swim, Felix had raised over $2000 for Axios!

Looking forward, this fall semester is the beginning of the 6 month Crossroads Udhekryq Torchbearers Bible school in Erseke, Albania. We have over 50 students from all around the world (Hong Kong, Kenya, Canada, US, Netherlands, Bulgaria, Serbia, Kosovo, Sweden, Germany, Australia...)! We look forward to "adopting" several students into our family group to share life together every week and mentor them as they journey to walk closer with Jesus.

Usually we stay for the whole Bible school season (September through March), but this coming December 2025, we plan to travel back to the US for 3 months for furlough.

Please, let us know if you would like to meet up with us, because we would love to meet with you!

Tentatively, we plan to be in Indiana (Ohio/W./Virginia) end of Dec-early Jan, Oklahoma/Tx end of January - early February,
and then, California end of February- early March.
